Sophomore kicker Stuart Williams and freshman kicker Justin Martin both took turns punting at practice this week.
Wyoming sophomore kicker Stuart Williams nailed his first field goal attempt of the year. The 33 yarder put Wyoming up 3 0 to start the game. But another, easier kick didn't go so successfully later in the first quarter. Williams' had an extra point attempt blocked after Wyoming scored. Whether it was hesitation on the his part or a blocking failure by his linemen, Wyoming needs to fix the issue in order to keep from leaving points on the field.
"I've got to learn how to let the ball bounce into the end zone or take a knee," Wick said. "I just wanted to make a play. But I've got to be smart."
"We should have had him in a position to fair catch the ball," he said.

Christensen said a coaching mistake led to a punt sailing over Wyoming return man Blair Burns' head on Saturday.
Christensen wasn't shy about saying which player, specifically, was behind the bad punting that took place against Texas. The Cortez Shoes White coach was asked if poor blocking or other hard to see breakdowns led to the measly 38 yard per punt average. Christensen said the problem was specifically the result of Cowboys' freshman punter Tim Gleeson. Tuesday, Christensen elaborated.

Freshman running back Shaun Wick is one of the kick returners for the Cowboys. During the team's press conference on Monday, he said he regretted his decision to run a kick out of the end zone instead of taking a knee for a touchback. New NCAA rules for this year place touchbacks on the 25 yard line instead of the 20. Wick didn't get that far on the kick he decided to try to return.
those numbers to increase.
Wyoming's special teams weren't so special
The kicking issues were not just limited to punts. Christensen said his team needed to do a better job of placing the ball on kickoffs as well. The coach stayed after practice Tuesday to watch three players take turn kicking the ball. Two of the players participating were expected, sophomore Stuart Williams and freshman Justin Martin (both kickers). The third participant was a bit of a surprise: redshirt freshman linebacker Zack Berg. Berg supposedly has a big leg that could help the Cowboys send it deep. He is said to struggle with accuracy on those kicks, however.
"It comes down to the guy kicking the ball," he said. "You can have the best players you want on special teams, but if you don't put the ball where you game planned to put it, then that team isn't going to be very good . If we shank a punt and they get the ball on the 40 yard line, they're probably going to score some points. We've got to change field position with our kicking game."
Burns' speed will make him a valuable asset for Wyoming if he gets a chance to catch punts and return them. But he didn't get many opportunities last week. The team's longest punt return was Nike Womens Cortez Leather
