As a land grant, flagship university, and the state's only 4 year university, it needs as much as possible to be a Jack of all trades. Do something about the problems. Yes it is possible to eat an elephant one bite at a time. Invite others to the feast. Unlike my generation where the only ones at the elephant roast were Americans and a few Europeans, today you will need Americans, Asians, Africans, Europeans, South Americans and Middle Easterners.
Take advantage of your access to information. Properly use the Internet to understand problems and find solutions. Examine issues from all angles. Be inquisitive. Don't rely on CNN or Fox News to form your view.
Most importantly, dream big. Don't limit yourself because you come from a small state or school. Values gained as Wyomingites honesty, integrity, hard work, personal responsibility, independence are your greatest asset. Beside my family, the single biggest contributor to my success is the privilege of experiencing this great state such that I now reflect its values "cowboy" values fired in this crucible called Wyoming. Wyoming is arguably the only state left that has kept its compass. My daily prayers include, "God bless Wyoming keep it true to itself." In my view, you are the best equipped future leaders of the world. So, as my mom told me, "go look beyond the mountains." Grab the world by horns. America needs you, and the world needs you!
