"I was shocked at the mileage you have to run in cross country," Meade said. "Last year I struggled, but now running 12 miles a day is easy for me. It's crazy what a year at this level will do for you."

"Last season, we had to rely on some freshmen to fill out our top five," Derner said. "This year it's nice to have some veterans that we can put out there and we know what they're going to do.

Berryhill mentioned Gillette junior Audra DeStefano and sophomores Ali Walker and Megan Brunette as potential challengers to Page. In addition, senior Devon England (Cheyenne Central) and sophomores Cassidy Meade and Mary Kozlowski (both from Laramie) gained valuable varsity experience last year.
Rock Springs native Garrett Zans ended his illustrious UW career last season by placing 65th at the NCAA Championships. It was the highest finish by a Cowboy since Mark Korir placed 19th in 2008.
Joining the Cowboys' veterans is a strong group of incoming freshmen that includes Ricky Faure of Rock Springs and Jonah Henry of Laramie. Faure was the Wyoming state Class 4A cross country champ in 2011 12 and Henry won it last year.
