"It felt good knowing that I could be in position. I was just hard on myself because I didn't catch the ball, obviously," Fort said. "So I've got to do some ball drills after this or some pushups."
"I'm just thankful. I have to thank God for this opportunity. A lot of people said I couldn't play D 1, and then Wyoming gave me the opportunity," Perez said. "So I'm just trying to take advantage of it."

"We had some depth issues and injury issues at safety, so they wanted to try me out there and that's where I was in the winter and spring," Fort said. "I guess when we got some new safeties in and others are healthy, they put me back at corner. I actually feel a little more comfortable there."
Where do I begin? Wyoming's fall practice got underway this morning, and with it came a bunch of nuggets and information about this year's team. We'll start with the faces of the program the Nike Cortez Nylon Black Size 10 captains.

Junior college transfer Albert Perez arrived in Laramie two and a half weeks ago, and ever since the 6 foot 1, 285 pound center has been busy meeting his teammates and learning a new offense.
Obviously, the coaches have liked what they have seen. Perez, who was listed as a starter on the spring depth chart without ever stepping foot on campus, immediately practiced with the rest of the starting offensive line Nike Cortez Ultra Green
And according to Wyoming coach Dave Christensen, his smooth transition continued on the field Tuesday.

Last season, Cortland Fort was a cornerback. This offseason, he was a safety. Now, he's a cornerback again.
It's especially important for Fort and his fellow corners to impress considering that the second cornerback slot is wide open heading into camp. Blair Burns is firmly entrenched on one side, but while DeAndre Jones took the first team reps at the other cornerback spot on Tuesday, there is plenty of competition behind him.
Fort, now back where he belongs, knows that in this close a race every play matters.
"I'm pushing so hard," he said. "It's really competitive right now. Everybody is going for that spot. Coach said the depth chart changes from day to day, so I want to put some good things on film to let them know that I should be there."
Fort back home at corner
Fort slapped his hands, frustrated.
The captains were decided by a team vote. None of the choices came as any surprise, and the newly minted captains began their duties by leading the team stretches at the start of Tuesday's practice.
A number of players wore red pullovers at Tuesday's practice, meaning that they are nursing an injury and aren't to participate in any contact drills.
He was hesitant to pass any judgment on the Aggies' controversial quarterback, but said his first impression was a good one.
Perez practices with first string
Wyoming holder Sam Stratton visited some friends in Dallas last week, and while he was there he attended a benefit that also featured Texas A head coach Kevin Sumlin and quarterback Johnny Manziel.
but he said after practice on Tuesday that he was willing to play wherever the defense needed him.
"I actually got a chance to meet Johnny, so that was pretty neat. But that was fairly briefI don't know him and I can't really speak on him, but he seemed like a good guy when I met him. He was nice to me," Stratton said. "Obviously there's a lot of controversy dealing with him, but I can't really speak on that."
Wyoming announced its 2013 team captains this morning. They are: senior OG Tyler Strong, junior QB Brett Smith, senior DT Patrick Mertens and senior FS Marqueston Huff.
Back at the familiar cornerback spot, Fort immediately made his presence known on Tuesday. Playing with the second string, Fort jumped an out route during an 11 on 11 drill and nearly intercepted a pass Nike Cortez Metallic Red Bronze
"I didn't see a bad snap. In fact, I saw all good snaps," Christensen said. "Good speed and quickness. Real athletic. I feel really good about him."
Stratton meets Manziel
"It'll be great competition," Christensen said. "All of those guys are in competition back there. We've got probably 4 6 guys that can play corner that will compete there, and probably the same amount of guys at safety. So it's just about finding out who the top guys are, who the next ones are and let them compete every single day."
Stratton said that he immediately hit it off with Sumlin, who was the receivers coach at Wyoming from 1991 92.
Perez, too, feels good about the opportunity to prove himself in a Mountain West program.
