The frame uses the same one piece, oversize bottom bracket shell and chainstays as Specialized's purebred racer, the Tarmac SL3. Crafting this part of the bike as a single piece accounts for some of the stiffness the bike doesn't yield when you put your power into the pedals. For stiffness up front, which translates into whipquick responsiveness and sure handling thanks to a lack of flex, the junction of the top, head and down tubes also borrows the Tarmac's one piece construction. To further eliminate flex, the top tube, which is dramatically thin near the saddle, flares toward the front, growing wider than the head tube where they meet. Specialized also developed its own bearing sizes because its designers thought the available standards were either too stiff or not stiff enough. The result is a bike without a hint of sway under your own torque or in high speed turns.

What really sets the Roubaix apart, however, is how it mates comfort to such speed. Specialized created bigger Zertz inserts and changed them from press fit to bolt in. This increased the tension in the rubbery shock absorbers, so they soak up vibration more consistently. The seatstays are engineered to flex nearly 6mm vertically to neutralize road shock an effect you can feel from the saddle.
ERASING THE LINE BETWEEN COMFORT AND SPEED If a Formula Nike Cortez Vintage One car collided with a La Z Boy, out of the white hot wreckage might emerge the 2011 Specialized Roubaix.

that was simply unprecedented. Some of the additional nods to a comfort oriented ride such as the tallish head tube, the longer wheelbase and slacker seat and headtube angles do not mute the bike's speed. At the same time, the unbridled acceleration and responsiveness never disrupt the plush, cushioned sensation you experience on any road surface.
Our test staff had briefly ridden the newest version of Specialized's performance oriented plush bike earlier this year in Colorado and on the cobbled race course of Paris Roubaix, and the initial impressions were both positive and promising: "Retained race bike aggression but imperfections in the road were easily chewed up," said one. "It's the best cobble bike I have ever ridden," said another. And after we'd acquired a test bike we could put significant miles on, our praise for this new Roubaix only grew louder.
FORGET IT:If you long for comfort
Its race worthiness is unquestionable. This bike won Paris Roubaix under Fabian Cancellara, and in the Tour de France's cobbled Stage 3 it was the choice of the top two podium finishers, Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck. But it's also one of the most comfortable road bikes we've ever ridden and not just in the race category. Generally, building a plush bike requires Nike Cortez Ladies
